Condolence: Rosemary & I send our deepest regards to the Bethlen family. We remember him fondly from our college days at Plattsburgh, and as a student working along side him helping to organize various summer workshops. His willingness to share his time and energy to help students has always been remembered, and though we have not seen him for many years those memories have not faded. May a peaceful rest be his.

Condolence: I was very sorry to learn of Dr. Bethlen's passing. I was a student of his in 1963.
He was a great teacher and cared about his students. When I need some spending money he hired me to paint the inside of his home. We also worked closely on a project on local industry.
I will never forget him. He had a special warmth for his students and it was an honor to have had him as a teacher.

Condolence: I am blessed to have many wonderful memories of "Mama" and "Papa" Bethlen, dear and treasured friends. Wherever they are now, I know they are together and feel certain they continue to serve the highest good. I learned much from my friendship with Francis and Ilona; and I am richer for having shared a piece of this life journey with them.

I want to express my sympathy at this time when friends and family step in to put our arms around you with love an support. In reading the other letters, I found myself feeling so very proud of your father for reaching out and helping so many people in his journey through life. Condolence: I was saddened to read of your Father's passing, and also your mother. As a Master's student just starting my teaching career, your father was such an inspiration. He made sure that he gave us applications for life, and for use in our classrooms. I have never forgotten his kindness, intelligence, and quiet wit, and the great field trips he arranged for us. Your mother was always a gracious hostess for the parties they held for his students. Although it's been 40+ years, I still remember his teachings and passed it on to my students until my retirement in 1997. My sincere condolences to you all. he will long be remembered and missed.

Condolence: It was with deep sadness that I learned of Dr. Bethlen’s death. He was my teacher, mentor and friend, first as a student at Plattsburgh and then for many years as I pursued a career as an economist and professor. I was close with Mrs. Bethlen as well.

He was extraordinarily generous with his time—not merely in teaching but in the extracurricular activities of students. Through those efforts he and Mrs. Bethlen touched many lives with their courage, kindness of hearts and personal example.

I often say, Plattsburgh educates its student quite well, but more importantly, it teaches men and women how to live productive, full lives and enhance their communities. Faculty like Dr. Bethlen are the reason for this wonderful contribution to New York and America.

I personally owe a great deal to the Bethlens, and after 40 years still quote Dr. Bethlen to my students and children. I am hardly alone in my debt.

If God ever put a better men or women on this earth, I am yet to meet them.

Condolence: Your father's obituary was truly impressive. Over the years I enjoyed bumping into your parents, even at Hannaford's. Your father's letter of recommendation for my brother Bob, was instrumental in his acceptance to Georgetown University in 1964.
